The highest point of the Himalayas is Mount Everest, at 29,032 ft (8,848.86 m) (2020 China–Nepal joint survey)the highest mountain on Earth. Its summit is a cap of snow and ice and is remeasured periodically; the headline is the surveyed height, not the satellite grid.

The headline 29,032 ft (8,848.86 m) is the surveyed figure. Over the snow-and-ice summit the GLO-30 model reads about 8,736 m at the summit in this fine 59 m window; across the whole arc the coarser grid tops out near 8,291 m — the satellite samples the top of the ice, and a 30 m grid averages sharp summits downward. Relief and elevation range

Across the mapped range the land runs from about 315 ft (96 m) on the valley floors to 27,201 ft (8,291 m) at the highest ground — a vertical range of 26,886 ft (8,195 m), which puts the Himalayas in the extreme-relief class. The mean elevation is 10,056 ft (3,065 m) and the median 10,121 ft (3,085 m); the two sitting close together says the height is spread broadly across the range, not concentrated in a few peaks over otherwise low ground.
