Relief and elevation range

Across the mapped range the land runs from about 617 ft (188 m) on the valley floors to 10,728 ft (3,270 m) at the highest ground — a vertical range of 10,112 ft (3,082 m), which puts the Dolomites in the high-relief class. The mean elevation is 4,990 ft (1,521 m) and the median 5,085 ft (1,550 m); the two sitting close together says the height is spread broadly across the range, not concentrated in a few peaks over otherwise low ground.

The Dolomites are built of pale limestone and dolomite rock — ancient coral reefs and lagoon beds from a warm prehistoric sea, later lifted and cut into sheer walls and spires as Africa pushed north into Europe.

Yes. Marmolada, at 10,968 ft (3,343 m), is the highest point anywhere in the Dolomites. The next-highest of the peaks pinned here, Antelao, is about 259 ft (79 m) lower.
