Relief and elevation range

Across the mapped range the land runs from about 325 ft (99 m) on the valley floors to 4,150 ft (1,265 m) at the highest ground — a vertical range of 3,825 ft (1,166 m), which puts the Catskills in the moderate-relief class. The mean elevation is 1,962 ft (598 m) and the median 1,972 ft (601 m); the two sitting close together says the height is spread broadly across the range, not concentrated in a few peaks over otherwise low ground.
